Most people have a love/hate relationship with Crocs. On the love side are those who have multiple pairs for multiple uses – working in the garden, wearing to the pool, a pair for the beach, a pair for the suitcase, and of course a pair for every day.
The haters are those that have them, but only wear them “around the house.” Or those won’t wear them at all. I was a Croc hater for years. I mean the Crocs Classic Clog is not the most attractive shoe in the world. But it is one of their best sellers. Lightweight, comfy, and those little holes make them “breathable”. These qualities make them perfect for sightseeing, theme parks, traveling, and ideal for any situation where you are standing all day. They are easy to slip on and off when going through security at the airport. The rainbow of colors offered in men, women, and kids sizes make the Classic Clog the perfect shoe for the whole family. It’s also convenient that you can order them online, and if you need a different size, you can always return them in-store.
In the winter, you can keep your tootsies comfy AND warm with the Crocs Classic Lined Clog. It’s called “fuzz lined”.
I particularly like the Crocs Flip Flops. I keep a pair in my suitcase at all times. I am one of those people who absolutely cannot stand when my bare feet touch the floor in a hotel room. Also handy for a pool visit and the beach when traveling.
I also keep a spare pair of Crocs Classic Slides at my parents’ house, and have a pair I wear around my home too. The Classic Slide is one of my favorites. So comfy, easy to clean, and a nice thick sole for support.
The right bag is the best traveling companion. That is certainly true when it comes to backpacks. When I am traveling for work as a corporate flight attendant, I always keep a lightweight string type backpack in my luggage to use at my destination. I think these are the best to use for sightseeing, and shopping for the jets, to keep my hands free. It holds the basics: credit card, wallet, keys, water bottle and super lightweight. (I use wheeled luggage and tote bags while in uniform). These lightweight backpacks are also good for everyday life – the gym, errands, etc.
If I am on a personal trip and want to do a day hike, then a backpack that is bigger, and fits well on my back, water resistant and some lockable zippers is best. It holds the basics: credit cards, wallet, keys, water bottle, plus some food and snacks, rain jacket, insect repellant, and contains padded shoulder straps. I like multiple zippered compartments in the front, and backpacks that you can open wide so you can find your stuff.
If you are traveling by jet, backpacks are a great “personal” item that fit nicely under the seat in front of you. Most of the time, your travel backpack will not be given a second look by gate agents when boarding. Unlike your wheeled bag which they will sometimes ask you to put in the “sizer box”. If your wheeled bag does not fit perfectly in the sizer, they will check your bag. Yes it has happened even to me!
Sometimes when traveling for work, I like a little “dressier” backpack than my lightweight string bag (which is sports related). I like one that I can use for the evening out, and still be hands free especially if walking to dinner. I also like a little color in my backpacks.
When I travel commercially to a conference, or have business meetings, I love to carry a 3-in-1 Convertible type Backpack with RFID Phone Wristlet. These bags are a backpack, briefcase, and shoulder bag all in one, have a quick access phone pocket, and a sleeve that slides over or luggage handle. Many brands carry these one bag wonders, but the ones from baggallini come in lots of fun colors.
Most importantly when selecting a backpack, is what weight and size is comfortable for YOU. Here are a few I recommend. I’ll add more to this article as I try them. (Yes, I do have a “thing” for bags!)
Best Lightweight String Backpacks: (sports related)
You can find a string backpack from your favorite team at Fanatics. Fanatics is a sports merchandise on-line superstore that partners with collegiate and professional teams.
Example: Pittsburgh Steelers, N.C. State Wolfpack, Clemson Tigers. Here is a string backpack like mine. Mine has a side pocket for a water bottle and a front pocket for keys.
Best Travel Backpacks for day trips:
I have used eBags products for years. They have a number of great backpacks good for men and women. The Mother Lode Travel Backpack is all that. Pockets for everything – your laptop, snacks, keys. It packs like a suitcase, meaning a big open compartment. Easily holds your packing cubes, and has expandable compression straps. You can also access the main compartment from the front of the bag, without having to unpack the whole bag. (when you want to grab your sweater in flight). It has top, bottom, and side handles for easy lifting.
Best 3-in-1 Convertible type Backpack with RFID Phone Wristlet:
I’m a corporate flight attendant so of course I love baggallini bags which were designed by flight attendants who understand the challenges of traveling. The 3-in-1 Convertible Backpack with RFID Phone Wristlet really might be the perfect combination of form and style, lightweight, and organization. Removable, adjustable straps let you wear the bag as a crossbody bag, a shoulder bag, a backpack, and it slides it over your luggage handle. Lots of pockets make this a dream bag. baggalini offers great color choices. You can use the wristlet to hold your phone and credit card for dinner out when traveling, and leave the bag in your room.
Best Backpacks for Everyday:
I do love a little color in my backpacks. The Naples Convertible Backpack holds the basics, looks sharp for dinner out, and has great reviews (other than just me). I like the French Navy color and the Blush Shimmer color. You can also adjust the straps to wear it like a sling.
Best Backpacks for Traveling for Work:
If you have to travel for work, or just need a professional looking backpack everyday to the office, check out the eBags Pro Slim Jr. Laptop Backpack.
It’s a sharp looking streamlined bag with a separate compartment at the bottom just for your cords and chargers. No more tangled mess in the bottom of your bag. Padded laptop sleeve fits up to 15″ laptop. Nice and organized pockets keep all your stuff tidy. This Pro Slim Jr. Laptop Backpack is 1.5″ shorter and 2″ slimmer than the Pro Slim Laptop Backpack. Nice organized pockets keep all your stuff tidy. If you look at this link, and scroll all the way down, can see how it compares to the slightly bigger eBags Pro Slim Laptop Backpack.
The right bag makes the best traveling companion. I hope this list helps you find a bag you can’t live without!

If you have never been to The Florida Keys and Key West, you are really missing out! Start planning now. Fly into Miami, rent a car, and enjoy the view as you pass through the Upper and Lower Keys to get to Key West. It’s about a 3.5 hour drive from Miami, so don’t be in a hurry. (The great views start about an hour and a half into the drive.)
(Pictured here at Lunch at Lorelei Restaurant and Cabana Bar!)
Once you get to Key West, you don’t need a car. We turned our car in as soon as we arrived in Key West and ubered to our hotel. (We flew back home out of Key West). If you stay on or near Duval Street (the main drag) you can walk everywhere. Most hotels have loaner bikes, which is a great way to get around Key West. While you are walking Duval Street be sure to stop for a beverage at the well known dives, Sloppy Joe’s,Hog’s Breath Saloon, and Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville Key West
Sloppy Joes Bar“Hogs’ Breath is better than no breath at all.”
Watch the sunset at Mallory Square, where sunset watching is an event every night. Street performers, artists, and food carts, and craft vendors gather nightly to celebrate the views! Sunsets and people watching are my favorites in Key West!
Sunset at Mallory SquareSunset at Mallory Square
Pedal your bike over to the southernmost point of Key West and get a picture with the buoy. Only 90 miles from Cuba.
We were there in January, and the weather was delightful. Warm and sunny, no humidity. I think it’s the best month to visit with less crowds. After you visit the buoy, pedal over toLouie’s Backyard for lunch, or just have a drink on their big deck and stare at the water. Life is good.
Key West is full of great adventures, from fishing to sightseeing tours, walking Duval Street, taking a trolley tour and enjoy!
There are many wonderful places to stay in Key West. We stayed at The Saint Hotel Key West, Autograph Collection, a quaint hotel in an excellent location on the corner of Duval and Eaton Street.
If you want to stay off the main drag try the Key West Marriott BeachsideHotel. You get a private beach, marina with jet ski tours, kayaking, and paddling. You can take the hotel shuttle to Duval street throughout the day!

When you hear of St. Kitts, it’s usually in connection with Nevis. St. Kitts is the larger of the 2 Caribbean islands that comprise St. Kitts and Nevis. Beautiful beaches of white, gray, and black sands, rain forested mountains and a wonderful breeze that is always just the right amount of wind!
We stayed at the St. Kitts Marriott & The Royal Beach Casino, a delightful hotel with all that you need to enjoy some fun in the sun. Multiple on-site restaurants and coffee shops, large pool area, and spacious beaches with plenty of beach chairs and umbrellas. The pizza shack at the pool has the best pizza on the island! You can golf at The Royal St. Kitts Golf Club – one of the best kept and scenic golf courses in the Caribbean.
Shiggidy Shack – St. Kitts, West Indies
Out the hotel door to the left is a 5 minute walk to many off site restaurants, a mini-grocery store, booze and tobacco, and souvenirs. We ate breakfast at Ritual CoffeeShop and Breakfast most mornings. RamsExpress mini supermarket carried all the snacks and water we needed. Just past these 2 places and still walking distance, was Rock LobsterRestaurant for dinner – the best meal we had on the island! One night we drove toShiggidy Shack for dinner, a fun and unique experience on the water and close to the Marriott. Other places not to miss are Vibes Beach Bar on the strip, and Shipwreck Beach Bar and Grill. Here is a great link to St. Kitts food and drink locations.
St. Kitts is a delightful destination. Take the ferry over to Nevisand explore. You won’t be disappointed.
Getting to St. Kitts (SKB): American Airlines offers connections via Miami and Charlotte. You can see more information at the St. Kitts tourism site. Don’t forget your passport.

Hilton Head, South Carolina is that ideal vacation destination that has something for everyone. You can fly in Savannah Airport (SAV), which is approximately 40 minutes drive. If you are driving, just follow I-95 South to Exit 8, just off the coast of South Carolina. From the exit, it’s about a 40 minute drive into beautiful Hilton Head Island.
Here are the top 6 reasons you should pack your bags and vacation here.
I like the fact that I can DRIVE to Hilton Head. NOT flying means I don’t have to stress about “packing light” in my suitcase, and I can just throw everything in the car – beach bags, beach chairs, and use the expandable zipper on my luggage without worrying about whether it will fit in the overhead bin.
Something for everyone- Honeymooners, family vacations, golfers (32 courses), girls get-away, traveling with your pets. Don’t leave Fido at home! Hilton Head has beaches, museums, shopping, tennis, mini golf, kids camp. Bring a bike or rent one – Hilton Head has miles of bike trails so the whole family can enjoy the great outdoors! Go fishing, play tennis, get a massage, and horseback riding. Sailing, kayaking, or riding a banana boat! Sample the great seafood. Explore the great history of the island. Hilton Head has it covered.
Beautiful beaches. There’s nothing like an island destination, especially when it is in the continental United States! Pull up a chair, kick off your flip flops, and put your toes in the sand. The salt air is most certainly the cure for what ails you. Pack your picnic bag and a cooler of your favorite libations and you’ve got a great day ahead. Enjoy the ocean breeze. Try a different restaurant every night. Create your own family memories. Make next year’s reservation.
Harbor Town Lighthouse
Harbor Town Lighthouse. Be sure to stop at Harbor Town and CLIMB the lighthouse for a fabulous view of the island. While you are there, stroll along the marina and admire the stately docked yachts. Enjoy some great dining and local seafood at the marina restaurants. Afterwards you can browse the shops and watch the sunset. While you are at the marina, make reservations for a sunsetdinner cruise one evening. Or reserve a spot and take a day ferry over to Savannah, Georgiafor the day. It’s a 45 minute ferry ride to Savannah.
Shopping, shopping, and more shopping. You can find every store you need in Hilton Head. You will have to look under the live oaks and palm trees, as Hilton Head does a great job of keeping the island looking “islandy”. Check out the beautiful trees and shrubs on Hilton Head.
Relax and unwind. This beach was made for chilling. Read a book. Take a nap. Fill up your beach bag with sea shells to take home. Enjoy the ocean breeze and watch the sunset. Something for everyone.
Westin Hilton Head Island Resort and SpaMarriot Hilton Head Resort and Spa
Savannah is one of my favorite destinations. I go once a year with my sister and mom. With so many things to do in Savannah, we offer up our top picks. For starters, we love River Street. Look at that lovely full moon, looking towards the Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa.
River Street’s views are what we love best. The striking Talmadge Memorial Bridge, the Savannah River, the paddle wheel boats, and the huge container ships that glide by. The places to really take in the scenery are rooftop bars along River Street, and the best time is at sunset into early evening. Here are our favorites:
Located at the JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside in the new Riverside District, this is truly one of the best views in town overlooking the Savannah River. Also at the JW Marriott is the Electric Moon rooftop bar. Catch either of these for photo-worthy sunset views.
Visit Savannah Plant Riverside. If you can, book an experience at the brand new JW Marriott Savannah Plant Riverside. If you can’t stay, at least visit. Marriott has “recycled” what was once a power plant and turned it into a beautiful hotel. It’s a destination itself with rooftop bars, several restaurants, live music, art galleries, shops, and more.

Explore the Historic Squares
Savannah is the oldest city in Georgia, and it is so easy to walk and see the 22 beautiful squares in the historic district. Originally designed for practice and drills for the early militia, today the squares are gathering places of beauty and much history. I haven’t seen all 22, but my sister has. Each square has its own delights waiting to be discovered, but her favorite is Lafayette Square. Located near the birthplace of Juliet Gordon Lowe (the Andrew Lowe House) and the stunning Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist, the square features a quirky fountain with birds and frogs in its design. Any square, however, is a great place to rest your feet and watch the world go by.
Explore City Market: City Market is four blocks filled with restaurants, retail shopping, art galleries, and more. With so many restaurants here, you’ll be sure to find something that fits just right. Among our faves are Garibaldi – be sure to save room for dessert – Vinnie Van Go-Go’s Pizza, and Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar. We always enjoy the free samples at Byrd’s Famous Cookies. My mom and sister also found the American Prohibition Museum next door fascinating.
Byrd’s Famous Cookies
The Olde Pink House: Be sure to treat yourself to lunch or dinner at The Olde Pink House. It’s a Savannah staple, and be sure to save room for dessert! Yes it really is a pink house! Call ahead to make reservations.
The Olde Pink House
Wormsloe Plantation:
Lined with hundred-year-old live oaks dripping with moss, the entrance to Wormsloe Plantation never disappoints.
Just 15 minutes from the Historic District, Wormsloe was established by Noble Jones, a carpenter who arrived in Georgia in 1722 with the first group of settlers from England. He went from carpenter to doctor, constable, Indian agent, land surveyor, and more, playing a significant role in Savannah’s earliest development. Today you can visit the museum, tour the trails, and experience events hosted here throughout the year. The name “Wormsloe,” by the way, came from Noble Jones’ hometown in England.
Bonaventure Cemetery:
Beautiful, eerie, and full of stories, Bonaventure Cemetery is the final resting place for generations of Savannah residents. Maps are available at the cemetery office for leisurely drives, but the best introduction is a guided tour. It was featured in the movie, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
The Doubletree Savannah Historic District on Bay street is diagonal to City Market and one block from River Street. It’s a great base for walking and sightseeing in Savannah. Don’t forget to collect the free warm chocolate chip cookie at check in. I have stayed here for many years because I love its great location and reasonable price.
The Hilton Garden Inn Savannah Historic District is directly across the street from the Doubletree Historic District. It is my second choice to stay. Love the location right at City Market and one block from River Street, and reasonable price.
The Bohemian Hotel Savannah Riverfront, an Autograph Hotel by Marriott, features fantastic views from its rooftop bar and restaurant, Rocks on the River.
Springhill Suites Savannah Downtown/Historic District is my latest find. Located at 150 Montgomery Street, it is a quick walk to City market, restaurants and hot spots. Free Breakfast is included. All the rooms are suites which have a microwave and refrigerator.
Travel Tip: Hotels in downtown historic Savannah are getting expensive. When planning your trip, make sure there is not a big event in town, festival, or St. Patrick’s Day. Rates are much higher then.
I saw this on a T-shirt on our 5th day in Waikiki Beach, Oahu. WOW. I said to my sister. It sure is. I had to buy the shirt!
No humidity. Stunning Sunsets. Pleasant 80-degree temperatures every day. Fresh pineapple so juicy it runs down your chin. Chocolate-covered macadamia nuts. What’s not to love?
Here is a great way to spend 5 days in Waikiki Beach, Oahu.
Day 1: Rent a car and drive to the North Shore. Take the windward coast route up so you can see the beautiful water views. There are many public beaches with parking to stop and take pictures, or pull up a chair, and sit and watch the waves! Stop for lunch at Teds’ Bakery Sunset Beach. Be sure to try the Chocolate Coconut Pie! Continue the drive along the coast and wind your way over to the Dole Plantation. Be sure to try the pineapple Dole Whip, and enjoy the train ride on the pineapple express tour.
Day 2: Pearl Harbor. The USS Arizona Memorial is a humbling must-see at Pearl Harbor. It is a lifetime experience to see the event that unfolded on December 7, 1941. The USS Arizona Memorial lies above the sunken ship, and the 1177 crew of men that lost their lives. Admission is free and tickets are first come first serve. Arrive early to beat the tour buses. It’s a 1 hour event once you get tickets. No bags allowed. (Read the frequently asked questions here)
Day 3: Climb Diamond Head! Diamond Head State Monument Park opens at 6:00 a.m., which is when the buses tours start! We arrived at 7:00 a.m. and beat the crowd. You will need a reservation now due to Covid. There is an entrance fee ($5.00) and a parking fee. It takes about 2 hours to walk up and back down. It is a good hike on uneven ground but worth the effort! Stunning views of Waikiki Beach and Honolulu. Almost to the top there is a section of 99 steps straight up a narrow tunnel. If you are claustrophobic, I suggest you take the outside route with the fresh air and lovely views!
Day 4 and Day 5: Sit on Waikiki Beach. Watch the surfers. Swim. Have a Guava daiquiri by the pool. Walk the strip. Shop. People Watch. Soak up the sun. Enjoy the balmy breezes. Eat fresh pineapple. Take a Waikiki sunset dinner cruise. Watch the fabulous sunsets.
Where to stay: There are many wonderful properties in the heart of Waikiki. I always stay at the Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort and Spa. It’s across the street from the beach, on the main strip, easy walking to shops, restaurants, and close to Diamond Head. Newly renovated outdoor bar and restaurant area features 2 pools! (one adult only pool) Here was my balcony view from my last visit!
Maui, Hawaii is one of my favorite places in the world! Stunning sunsets, low humidity and comfortable temperatures make you want to be outside the whole day. I stayed in Ka’anapali area, which has a wonderful beach boardwalk to stroll or exercise on every day. Stop and have a coffee, cocktail, shop or have a meal! Enjoy the great outdoors!
Location, location, location. The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka’anapali sits on the oceanfront of the famous Ka’anapali Beach right in the center of a great ocean boardwalk in west Maui. A great way to start your day is a nice walk along the beach boardwalk. Stop and have a coffee, lunch, or shopping are all within walking distance. Recently renovated the hotel offers the Mahele Market & Eatery, for grab and go breakfast and lunch items to suit the whole family. There is also a Starbucks Cafe on site.
End your day watching the beautiful sunsets. The most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen are right here!
The View. Sit on your balcony, at the pool, on the lawn, watch the world, and decompress.
The pool. The water slide. Multiple pools overlooking Ka‘anapali Beach including an adults-only pool deck with an infinity pool and hot tub. All ages can enjoy a newly designed family area including an interactive splash zone and 270-foot water slide.
Whalers Village is next door. Food courts, convenient stores, shopping, and restaurants! You can even sign up for hula lessons and lei making here. Great for souvenirs. Eat at Hula Grill on the waters edge at Whalers Village and try the Hula Pie.
Easy access to Lahaina, the next town over. Take the hotel shuttle for free and explore. Be sure to explore Lahaina front street. It’s a cute and charming town with wonderful places to eat and shop. Be sure to dine at Fleetwood’s on Front Street and visit the rooftop bar for a sunset cocktail.
Travel Tips: My most recent visit was March 2023. It’s spring break in the U.S. so the area was busy. If you want to travel when it’s less crowded, book in April/May or October/November.
Packing Cubes keep your luggage neat and organized. It’s like having drawers in your suitcase, so you can unpack less, and vacation more. Once the cube is full, your clothes don’t move around, so less wrinkling. These cubes are lightweight, washable, and once you try them you will be addicted too. They are a genius invention, and not just for your suitcase. You can organize your life with colorful (machine washable) cubes. Here is how you use packing cubes:
Small cube: socks, underwear, bras, baby clothes, diapers. Organize your office supplies, kids’ toys with small pieces. (Legos) They stack perfect in your suitcase, closet, or garage. Organize the kids clothing by color of cube. Great to use in the car for afterschool snacks, handwipes, kleenex.
Medium cube: shirts, pajamas, shorts, or hair dryer and brushes, flat iron, kids clothes, diapers. Organize your crafts, add one to the car with wipes, sanitizer, and ziplocks/small trash bags! They stack perfect in your suitcase and you can put your dirty clothes in them for your return home trip. Organize the kids clothing by color of cube.
Large cube: sweaters and everything else, kids clothes. Organize the garage shelves, and the boat. Use them in the linen closet – organize by sheet sets/size.
Slim cube: great for phone and laptop chargers, toiletries, flat iron.
Packing cubes make great teacher gifts, best-friend gifts, family gifts, graduation gifts, and gifts for moms to keep their kids organized.
2. The right bag(s) makes the best traveling companion. Wheeled Luggage.
Wheeled luggage. Do you prefer 2 Wheels or 4 Spinner Wheels? For me, it depends on the trip. When flying on the airlines, I do not like to check my bag. That limits you to 2 carry-on items. Lightweight luggage that rolls easy is a must-have and always makes a great gift. ebags Motherlode 21″ Carry-On Rolling Duffel is the perfect combination of hardside suitcase and softside duffel bag. Plus, the easy-access front pocket allows you to quickly pull out a sweater mid-flight when it’s freezing-or lets you access anything at a moment’s notice without having to unpack the whole bag.
3. The right bag(s) makes the best traveling companion. Carry-on totes.
A carry-on tote needs to be lightweight, organized and comfortable to carry. Not too big, and not too small. The baggallini 3-in-1 Convertible Backpack with RFID Phone Wristlet really might be the perfect combination of form and style, lightweight, and organization. Removable, adjustable straps let you wear the bag as a crossbody bag, a shoulder bag, a backpack, and it slides it over your luggage handle. Lots of pockets make this a dream bag. baggalini offers great color choices. You can use the wristlet to hold your phone and credit card for dinner out when traveling, leaving the bag in your room.
ebags make the perfect cooler for drinks and snacks for tailgating, a road trip, a day at the beach, pool day, after school pick up. These Crew Coolers have a big open area for your ice and drinks and food that needs to be cold. Top zipper pockets stores “dry” staples. Front zipper pocket holds keys, phone, wallet or anything else. It also has a sleeve so you can slide it over your suitcase handle when traveling with a removable shoulder strap. ebags crew coolers make great teacher gifts, best-friend gifts, family gifts, graduation gifts, and gifts for busy moms with after school activities. tailgating!
This should go without saying. Sneakers, sandals, flip flips – whatever works for you. Love them or hate them, Crocs has them all for the whole family. The Crocs Classic Clog is the most widely seen shoe for traveling. No wonder it is one of their best sellers.
I do have a bit of a “thing” for bags. baggallini bags were created by Flight Attendants who really know the ins and outs of traveling and having the right traveling companion (A great bag). I also have purchased (and loved) my bags through ebags.
Here are a few I recommend:

Easily holds your packing cubes, and has expandable compression straps. You can also access the main compartment from the front of the bag, without having to unpack the whole bag.
